Russia’s Silicon Valley still has a ways to go
A group of US venture capitalists left Moscow this weekend intrigued, but not convinced by Russia’s plan to spur economic modernisation by building a Silicon Valley.
Dmitry Medvedev has championed the project to build the high-tech hub at Skolkovo, a village in Moscow’s woody suburbs. Dubbed “Inograd” by officials, it is the linchpin of the Russian president’s grand scheme to modernise the economy and wean it off oil and gas.

G20 finance ministers meet in Busan, South Korea, to discuss the global financial turmoil. Wen Jiabao visits Japan. Czech politicians will be digesting the results of Friday’s elections. In Brussels the European Parliament committee on economic and monetary affairs will decide whether to back Estonia’s eurozone bid; and in London, the International Institute for Strategic Studies will host an Asian security conference, with North Korea’ on the agenda. A meeting of trade ministers from the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation group will over the weekend in Singapore.
