Week ahead: October 25 – 31

The Buttonwood Gathering brings policymakers, bankers and regulators to New York, where new regulations, sovereign debt risk and the rise of China are on the agenda; in Marrakech, economic growth in the Middle East and North Africa will be the theme at the World Economic Forum’s MENA meeting; and southeast Asian leaders convene in Hanoi for the Asean summit. Meanwhile, earnings season rolls on with profit reports from DuPont, BBVA, Whirlpool, Microsoft and others, central banks in Hungary, Poland and Colombia meet on interest rates, and South Korea reports Q3 GDP. Sunday brings Halloween and the final round of the Brazilian presidential election, with Dilma Rousseff looking set for victory.
