A man changing a 200 USD bank note in Congolese Francs When South Africa’s Standard Bank moved into Russia in 2009, taking a 36.4 per cent stake in the brokerage Troika Dialog for $300m, it was set on becoming a global player in emerging markets banking. But it sounded the death knell for that strategy with last month’s announcement that it would sell its Troika holding – and it may be close to offloading its interests in Turkey and Argentina too.
