Much of the attention around the eurozone crisis has now shifted to Portugal, the latest of the PIGS peripheral eurozone economies to fall under market scrutiny.

But trade unions are still not done with Greece and Ireland, the first countries to be bailed out, accusing the Commission of riding roughshod over workers’ rights there in the wake of their respective financial aid packages.

John Monks, the head of the European trade union confederation, the Brussels-based umbrella group, has written to the economics commissioner Olli Rehn accusing Commission officials of issuing “diktats” on labour issues without consulting the unions. Read more
