Strange new jobs: Reservationist

In what is intended as an occasional seriesĀ noting new jobs, and new names for old ones, I would like to start with the “reservationist”.

A reservationist is a person who takes your reservation forĀ a New York restaurant. I found this out just now when calling Keith McNally’s restaurant group - which includes Balthazar, Pastis and others - for a booking.
