Herr Merckle is now asking the German government for a “Bürgschaft” i.e. to stand surety for him/act as his guarantor, presumably to prevent a forced sale of the family firm?

At UBS bonuses are to be frozen for several years to ensure that, if risk decisions by management turn sour by producing huge losses at later dates, no “frozen” bonuses will be paid
