You hum it we’ll post it

Ciaran Fenton asks, in a comment on my last post, whether readers will be allowed to start a debate on other management topics themselves. Be our guest Ciaran - and that goes for anyone else who would like to explore a particular theme. Just post a suggestion below and we’ll find a way of creating a separate post on the subject in order to open things up for discussion.

  1. How about micromanagement and its implications on employee morale, productivity, and retention? Every morning at 8:00 sharp all employees at the mid-sized company I work for must file through a single door and past the clockwatching human resources director’s glass crows nest of an office. An employee who runs an errand over our 30-minute lunch break and is delayed from the office for an extra 10 minutes because of traffic must use personal time to cover the absense because the company has a zero-tolerance approach to flex time. Insights on this nickel-and-dime corporate culture and accounts of how readers have dealt with it would be wonderful.
