Vera Guerreiro, Tuck School of Business

Today I must give a big shout-out to the first year Tuckies. They just had their last exam for the first term of their first year. Here at Tuck, the Fall term for the first year is split in two, Fall A and Fall B, because there is just so much to learn.

I have just had a visit from a friend from Portugal who is doing her MBA overseas and is on an exchange programme in Boston this term. Like me, she is a city girl at heart – we both grew up in Lisbon and lived in London before school, so I was worried she wouldn’t like it here “in the middle of the woods”.

Here at Tuck, one of our first year requirements is to work on a project for an external client. Some projects come in through clients who have business problems they need help with and others come from students who have ideas of projects and companies they would like to work for and so they go ahead and pitch their work.

I can’t believe classes only started a week ago! It is definitely nice being back, but it got busy really quickly. I’m taking 4.5 classes this term, that’s 4 full courses plus one mini course that runs for half the term.

Hello world. My name is Vera and I am a Tuckie, our nickname for students at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, in Hanover, New Hampshire. The choice of where to go to business school is obviously a big step, so I wanted to take this first post to tell you a little bit about how I made my decision.
