The FTSE has been wobbling again this week - it’s down today on bad unemployment data from the US - but, quelle surprise, that seems to be spurring private investors on to buy more shares.
TD Waterhouse, the broker, said today that its customers’ trades are up 12 per cent since last week - and two-thirds of that activity is people buying, not selling, shares.
The top buy for the week is Royal Bank of Scotland - but it’s also the top 10 sell. So I guess investors are pretty divided over whether the bank’s plans this week to raise more capital spell good news or not.
