People celebrate the departure of Burkina Faso’s President Blaise Compaore in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso. General Honore Traore, the head of Burkina Faso’s armed forces, took power on Friday after Compaore resigned amid mass demonstrations against an attempt to extend his 27-year rule in the West African country.

Members of the army rescue unidentified trekkers from the Thorung La mountain pass on the Annapurna Circuit, near Muktinath, in Mustang district, Nepal, 17 October 2014. In total seven dead bodies of trekkers including from Poland, Israel, China and Nepal have been brought to Kathmamdu over the past 24 hours, however the search operation continues for trekkers who went missing in a snowstorm, triggered by Cyclone Hudhud which brought heavy snowfall, which has so far claimed to lives of 29 people, though dozens remain unaccounted for.
