The Greek Roma community, protesting authorities' plans to demolish their illegal settlement and move them to a remote spot in the countryside, blocked a main northern Athens avenue for hours Tuesday, using rubbish bins that they then set on fire. Eventually, a compromise was reached whereby a few uninhabited shacks will be knocked down, and the rest will stay in place pending a final agreement on relocating the Roma.
