The Golan, seized by Israel from its Arab neighbour in the 1967 Six-Day War, has been mostly quiet since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Tension, however, has risen since the 2011 start of the conflict in Syria between rebels and regime forces.
A young boy yawns during early morning self defense training at a summer boot camp on the outskirts of Beijing, China. Running in its fifth year, the youth military summer camp first opened in 2008, when it only had a handful of students signed up. Today the camp caters to over 2,000 kids a year over a two month period. The camp is ran mainly by former military, police, and fire fighters, looking after kids ranging from 6 to 17 years of age, with 70 percent being boys and 30 percent girls.
Junior Soldiers from 19 Platoon, Burma Company make final preparations before a graduation parade on Thursday in Harrogate, England. The Army Foundation College in Harrogate opened in 1998 and provides training for soldiers destined for all the Army’s career paths and provides training for 1344 junior soldiers. During their time at the college the students are taught basic military skills and can achieve vocational qualifications, City and Guilds apprenticeships and take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
