- Facebook registered its 200 millionth active user, continuing its stunning growth. Just in January the site claimed it had 150m users. That amounts to an additional 50m users in the past three months, or about 500,000 new users per day. Much of this new growth is coming internationally, however, where internet traffic is harder to monetise.
- Apple was sued by Elan Microelectronics in a San Francisco court today. Elan is claiming that Apple knowingly infringed on two of its touch-screen patents, and is seeking unspecified damages.
- Acer, the world’s third-largest PC maker, unveiled a new ultra-thin notebook for half the price of comparable models from competitors Sony, Samsung and Fujitsu.
- The government of France is preparing to create the world’s first surveillnace system for internet piracy. The system would force service providers to disconnect customers accused of illegally downloading content.
