Cloud Engines has launched a small-business version of its Pogoplug device that makes remote access to files simpler.
In looks, the Pogoplug Biz is the same as the consumer version but lurid pink has been abandoned for a more sober black-and-white colour scheme.
San Francisco-based Cloud Engines emphasises usage monitoring and customisation with the new version, which carries a hefty premium.
Businesses can see how many times a folder or file has been viewed or downloaded and can customise the look of the Pogoplug interface and use their own domain name – imagine Pogoplug’s PR agency using its own design and giving me access to their Pogoplug-enabled site so I can download an image of the new Pogoplug (actually they emailed me this one).
With one or more USB hard drives plugged in, businesses have extendable cloud storage with no monthly fees, says Cloud Engines.
Multiple users can be set up to use the device and custom email addresses can be used for clients to send files to the Pogoplug.
The Pogoplug Biz can be pre-ordered now for $300. However, it represents a considerable mark-up on the $130 price of the consumer version for these added software features and a colour-scheme change.
Other options we looked at in our last Pogoplug review were Opera’s Unite browser and Seagate’s Dockstar, although the latter has been succeeded by the FreeAgent GoFlex Net Media Sharing Device, which includes Pogoplug’s consumer software and costs only $100.
