Following Dell’s Duo, with its flipover screen, Lenovo has come up with another take on the hybrid tablet/netbook with the Ideapad U1 and its detachable LePad slate. The concept may look familiar – Lenovo first showed it at CES 2010, but we finally have a release date and proper specifications for the machine, which make interesting reading. Read more

Much of the excitement around HP at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week is over whether it will unveil a long awaited tablet powered by Palm’s webOS. No sign of it yet, but, in the meantime, HP has announced its new notebook, netbook, PC and monitor lineup with the Pavilion dm1 looking the pick of the bunch. Read more

Not content with sending Apple past Microsoft in market value last year, investors on Monday gave it a new bragging right on the first trading day of 2011: a market cap exceeding $300bn. Competition for the iPad may be just around the corner, but for now, the stock market is betting that Apple will continue to lead the field by a large margin. Read more
