Twitter to launch own photo-sharing service, reports say

The latest news from around the Web:

Twitter is on the verge of announcing its own built-in rival to Twitpic and Yfrog, Techcrunch reports. The announcement, which could come as soon as today, is seen as a logical step in Twitter’s expansion of its range of apps.

Jann Wenner – whose Wenner Media publishes Rolling Stone, Us Weekly and Men’s Journal – has slammed the rush by magazine companies to publish for the iPad as ‘sheer insanity’.  Speaking to AdAge, Mr Wenner said:

But the lesson for magazine publishing business is not to rush like the music business should have done, because it’s a different product. Music is really easily reducible to digital. There’s a different beat to it.

Be attuned. Get ready to make the moves. Be adept at moving quickly to the changes. But to rush to throw away your magazine business and move it on the iPad is just sheer insanity and insecurity and fear.

Apple, Google and Research in Motion have reached a stalemate in the battle for dominance of the US smartphone market, CNN Money reports .  According to survey results released by Nielsen, smartphones represent 37 per cent of all US mobile phones. Handsets running Google’s Android operating system are the most popular, however its slice of the market was unchanged at 36 per cent in the three months from February.
