The Tech Grinch’s Christmas List: No.7 iPod wannabes
December 10, 2006
(The Grinch List continues: all the gadgets, gizmos and games you won’t find in the stores this year.)
So do you want the Nano, the Shuffle or the plain old regular version?
In July, HP scrapped the "HPod". (Call this one Fiorina’s Folly: for a while she dreamed of juicing up stodgy old HP with digital media. It didn’t take Mark Hurd long to change the playlist.)
A month later, Dell turned off the final model of its "DellPod". (Perhaps DJ Ditty wasn’t such a great name for a music player after all.)
This was also the year the Rio ran its course (hard to believe that in pre-iPod days this dinky gadget provoked a legal storm from the music industry - mine only held about eight songs.)
You can still buy a Zune, though. Apparently there are plenty of those available.
10. An Enzo Ferrari
9. Halo 3

another one to add to the HP list,it their Photo kiosk its printing average qaulity digital prints, its the second time they have tried this space last time with Kodak wrote off hundreds of millions of dollars, this kiosk was too slow too expensive, the curent plan is lacking in retail presence, the offer is confusing in the market from an ink company that offers in home printing now wanting to become an out of home retailer, they have no brand that travels in the retail printing space with on-demand kiosks.
The business model is lacking any strength,it requires outside assistance to operate,so its an instore system when to today the market is cruising the mall space with their media from the camera/phone handsets.

Consider it took the 35mm camera over 50yrs to reach a market penatration of some 1bn owners, its going to take these new generation camera/phone handsets less than 18mths in the world, replace this imaging capabilty,HP are not even in this market to meet this massive demand.
