Paranoid Android?

The way to achieve a certain mystique for a mobile product is to not attend trade shows like the Mobile World Congress. Last year Apple stayed away, but the iPhone was the word on everyone’s lips. This year Android is the new, much discussed, threat to the establishment and Google’s presence is minimal - especially as Andy Rubin, head of the Android project, had to suddenly race back to the US, cancelling planned demos of the software. Was it really an emergency calling him back - or is it just the new style of brandbuillding?

  1. That’s an interesting scenario Maija, but perhaps it has more to do with Google’s talks with Yahoo! about trying to work around being acquired by Microsoft. Many think that there are big mobile implications tied to the bid and they may have needed Andy to participate in high level conversations with Yahoo! about options they have in the mobile market.

Also, I cought your story today on mobile advertising being a huge story at the MWF this year and think you may be interested in speaking with a client of mine named Ringleader Digital.

They are working the solve the mobile devide that consists of phones with 1,000’s of types of functionality.

Without the support of mobile cookies to identify mobile users, the company has created a technology platform that detects the type of mobile device, functionality and network a user is on to seamlessly and simultaneously distribute ad campaigns across any digital platform (mobile or online). The need to segment the two markets (mobile & online) has been a huge problem for both content sites and advertisers and we are finally getting over this hurdle.

This understanding is also solving the other piece of the mobile advertising ecosystem – Giving publishing and mobile content sites complete control over mobile advertising campaigns.

Let me know if you may be interested in chatting with their CEO Bob Walczak in the comming weeks. He’s actually out at MWF this week.

    Best,
    Kyle
