Tech dating: look up before you hook up

Intelius provides background check and public records services to companies and individuals using the internet to sniff out personal data that sometimes people would rather forget. This is serious stuff that can make or break a job applicant.

Now however the company has turned its technology spotlight onto another area where reputation really matters: Dating.

DateCheck, unveiled at the DemoFall 09 show in San Diego, is a free mobile app designed to enable potential partners to decipher fact from fiction before deciding whether to accept an invitation to a date.

Users simply enter a name, phone number or email address and DateCheck instantly trawls the public records, internet services and social media sites like FaceBook for relevant information about  the wanabee paramour.

Features include a ‘Sleaze Detector’ that reports back on any criminal records and other faux pas, ‘Living Situation’ that tells you who lives at the same address,  and a ‘Net Worth’ checker that provides details about the value and size of the home address.

“Look up before you hook up,” said the blond demoing the application. Well I was convinced.
