The full effect of Romney’s comments disparaging 47% of Americans has yet to be gauged. But his dismissive tone towards those “who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing” contrasts sharply with George W. Bush – who trademarked the term “compassionate conservatism”.
