Will Treasury select committee haul in Sir James Crosby?

February 11, 2009 12:30pm

No definite decision has been made yet. But many members of the committee are keen to grill Crosby after he was named yesterday - by one former HBOS whistleblower - as the architect of some of the bank’s misfortunes.

The MPs are meeting at lunchtime today ahead of the 2.30pm committee session (featuring Stephen Hester and others) and will discuss the Crosby issue.

My hunch is that he will be called in to explain himself; then again, some Labour MPs could argue against it given the political ramifications*. They may not want to embarrass the prime minister.

(You may remember from yesterday’s blog that Crosby is deputy chair of the FSA and an adviser to the government on mortgage markets).

* John McFall, Labour chair of the committee, signalled in a TV interview earlier today that he would wait for written submissions before deciding on this.
