Labour and the 12 missing Parliamentary Private Secretaries
I revealed in this morning’s FT that there are a dozen vacancies among the lowest ranks of government; the Parliamentary Private Secretaries. What does this mean? Well, it seems to suggest that many Labour MPs are resigned to defeat. Becoming a PPs is broadly thankless (and unpaid) but does usually offer the prospect of future promotion.

Ban bogofs: Defra’s big idea
The new food review by Defra promises much but offers little*. As far as I can make out, there is a lot of widescreen chin-stroking (sorry, moral leadership) about future food shortages and the need to get green but nothing remotely concrete – unless you count a new website “Food 2030″ for the public to write in with suggestions.
