I was one of those who thought John Bercow would make a poor Speaker of the House of Commons: wrongly.
His put-down to an unruly backbencher today was a classic: “You are as boring as you are boorish,” is the phrase written down in my notebook.
UPDATE: Am told the quote was directed at Tory MP Simon Burns. And it was: “Your heckling is as boring as it is boorish“. Close.
