For my first toe in the water I’m plumping for Dundee West where William Hill has the Scottish Nats as the favourites despite having to overturn a 5,379 Labour majority.
At the last election incumbent Labour’s Jim McGovern got 44.6 per cent of the votes against 30 per cent for the SNP and 14 per cent for the Lib Dems.
It seems rather an ask for the SNP to take this one; they aren’t doing badly in the polls but have lost some momentum since winning power in Holyrood. McGovern was unscathed by the Westminster expenses scandal (the worst the Telegraph could find was a £25 “sandwich cage” – anyone know what that is?).
Back in Glasgow East, where the SNP won a famous by-election the summer before last, Labour are now by far the favourites once again. I also wonder whether the Lib Dems could eat into the anti-Labour vote in Dundee West.
As a result I’ve placed £5 with William Hill for Labour to hold the seat.
