I’m told that Andrew Mitchell, the development secretary, will announce this afternoon that he’s appointing Lord Ashdown to a new humanitarian role: “Chair of the Emergency Response Review“.
It will involve looking at how UK emergency aid is functioning and how it could be improved. The news will come in a speech by Mitchell – looking at the response to the Haiti earthquake six months ago.
There are concerns that money pledged by the international community has been slow to reach the island, where 1.5m people have been made homeless.
