Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles will tomorrow (Saturday) announce his intention to disband the Audit Commission.

Alex Salmond was criticised a while back for employing a Monaco-based engineering tycoon, Jim McColl, to advise him on economic affairs. (Although, as the Herald reported, McColl’s Scottish businesses pay UK taxes).

It was Vince Cable, then Lib Dem Treasury spokesman, who said this was “completely unacceptable”.
