OK, I know, there were only four Tory MPs who signed-up to opposing a rise in tuition fees.
And, yes, it is probably less of a promotion than a government job to make sure they vote the right way.
But it is an interesting anecdote nonetheless, particularly for those (like me) who didn’t realise there really are four Conservative MPs out there who signed the National Union of Students pledge card. What were they thinking?
For the record the Fees Four are: Lee Scott (Ilford North), Bob Blackman (Harrow East), Stephen Mosley (City of Chester) and Ben Wallace (Wyre and Preston North).
Wallace and Scott (pictured) have since been made Parliamentary Private Secretaries. I’ve no idea whether this had anything to do with Wallace’s Damascene conversion. Will the others see the light?
